Under the motto of Fernando Pessoa: "My homeland is the Portuguese language", e3 was firstly founded as a publication dedicated to the dissemination of science in Portuguese, acting in the lusophone space and the community of Portuguese-speaking countries. It now opens to news worlds and new paths, reinforcing its long-term mission to harvest and disseminate knowledge and bring researchers and scientific communities closer together.

Published twice a year, it offers open, immediate and free access to its content, following the principle that scientific knowledge is freely available based on scientific, social responsibility and knowledge transfer to society.

The quality control of the submitted manuscripts is carried out by the Editors-in-Chief, by the Scientific Council, and by at least one double, and blind, peer review, or open peer review.

Peer Review Process

The purpose of the review is to help authors improve the quality of their work by providing constructive and timely reviews prepared by experienced academics. e3 considers the review process a fundamental step for the improvement of articles. For this reason, e3 reviewers are encouraged to present, in addition to the opinion on the publication, suggestions for improvement regarding the content and form of the text.

The review process of articles submitted to e3 includes the following steps:

   1. The texts are submitted by the authors on the platform of the e3 Journal;

   2.   Proof of receipt is sent to the authors;

   3. The Editors-in-Chief and the Assistant Editors do a screening to check whether the manuscripts:

                 I. fall within the scope of e3 and are of sufficient quality. If the decision is favorable, two scientific reviewers are sent. The review is a blind peer review: neither the reviewer has knowledge of the authors, nor these of the scientific reviewers, or an open peer review, as this is a good practice of Open Science, allowing to increase transparency, efficiency, and accountability in the review process.

                 II. comply with formal requirements. If this condition is not observed, they are returned for modification;

   4. If the situation described in 3 I. is verified, the reviewers have 5 working days to accept or refuse the review;

   5. If they agree to carry out the review, they undertake to complete it within one month by filling in the respective review form.

    6. The article is accepted if the peer review indicates acceptance or acceptance with restrictions. The editorial team (editors-in-chief and/or associates, if applicable) may intervene and make the decision of acceptance in cases of a tie after consulting with a third reviewer. If both initial reviewers reject the article, the editors will confirm the rejection decision. If both initial reviewers accept the article, the editors will confirm the acceptance decision.
