Description of Disciplines and Scientific Areas

NAUS: Lusophone Journal of Cultural and Communicational Studies is a scientific publication that aims to be a space for sharing and dialogue on Lusophone issues, highlighting the dynamic intersection between culture, communication, and citizenship.

It publishes and disseminates, in open access format, texts that interweave various disciplines, including:

  • Cultural and artistic studies (arts, literature, cinema);

  • Cultural communication (philosophy, anthropology, sociology, history, arts and design, cinema, literature);

  • Social communication (journalism, information and communication);

  • Strategic communication for inclusion (advertising, marketing, public relations, administration, political science, human rights).

NAUS navigates the seas of inter-, multi-, trans-, and pluridisciplinarity, offering a broad and inclusive understanding of contemporary issues that resonate across Lusophone territories.

Scope and Objectives

NAUS is a biannual academic publication intended for professors, researchers, professionals, and civil society. Its mission is to disseminate original scientific work that fosters innovation, dialogue, and holistic dissemination of Lusophone cultures.

This approach reflects the principle that scientific knowledge should be accessible, grounded in scientific responsibility and committed to knowledge transfer to society.

  • Access: Open and free

Manuscript quality is ensured through a rigorous evaluation process conducted by the Editor-in-Chief, the Scientific Council, and at least one peer review (single-blind, double-blind, or open).

Editorial and Peer Review Processes

The peer review process is designed to support authors in improving the quality of their work, offering constructive and timely feedback from experienced academics.

Evaluation Stages:

  1. Desk Review: Preliminary assessment by the Editor-in-Chief to evaluate the manuscript's alignment with the journal's editorial scope.

  2. Peer Review: One of three models is applied:

    • Single-blind (anonymous reviewer / identified author)

    • Double-blind (anonymous reviewer / anonymous author)

    • Open (identified reviewer / identified author)

Reviews and interviews are exempt from peer review.

Authors may indicate their preferred review model at the time of submission. In the absence of a stated preference, the default model is double-blind peer review.

Review Workflow:

  • Authors submit manuscripts via the NAUS platform and receive automatic confirmation of receipt.

  • Initial screening is conducted by the Editor-in-Chief.

  • If approved, two reviewers are appointed.

  • Manuscripts are checked for compliance with formal requirements.

  • If non-compliant, they are returned for revision.

  • Reviewers have 5 working days to accept or decline.

  • Upon acceptance, reviewers complete their evaluation within 30 days using the official review form.

  • Editorial decision:

    • Accepted or accepted with revisions;

    • In the event of a tie, a third reviewer is consulted;

    • Two rejections result in confirmed rejection.
