A QUEEN BETWEEN FICTION AND HISTORY: THE PROTAGONISM BY D. ISABEL DE ARAGÃO IN A RAINHA SANTA BY ISABEL MACHADO

Abstract
In the perspective of the studies about the fictional and novelistic character, this paper aims to do a brief analysis about the protagonism by D. Isabel de Aragão in the Medieval Iberian Peninsula through the portuguese contemporary historical novel A Rainha Santa (2017) by Isabel Machado. That said, this study justifies itself by the need to investigate the way how the fiction character, more especifically, the novelistic character is built into the portuguese contemporary historical novel. Therefore, as thesis idea, we have defended that it is through the features of the historiographical metafiction and the construction of the novelistic character which Isabel Machado (2017) builds the protagonist of her novel in a way which this last one gains a realistic content as well as a bigger protagonism if compared with the figure of the Saint Queen represented into the traditional historical novel. Methodologically, our study consists in a research with a bibliographical slant through which we have done an intrepretative and critical-reflective reading about the literary narrative, and theoretical support related to literary and historiographical studies. In conclusion, by seeing the profile of D. Isabel de Aragão into the portuguese contemporary historical novel, we have noticed that the analized protagonist represents a heteredoxy which is a feature of the historiographical metafiction what somehow configurates the construction of the novelistic character in the post-modern historical literary studies.
