Abstract

We live in mediatized societies: the development of communication technologies has led to the transformation, to a greater or lesser extent, of basic social institutions, such as family, work, religion, among many others. In such a scenario, interpersonal relationships change, as well as worldviews, ways of being and living in society, the feeling of belonging, the perception of oneself and the other. In this article, we are interested in understanding the space we inhabit today and the role the media play in it, as well as reflecting on the processes of discursive construction of identities in this new context based on a reflection on the novel Fake Accounts, by Lauren Oyler. The theoretical-methodological framework adopted is that of Cultural Studies and Media and Communication Studies.
