Main Article Content
Abstract
This work aims to investigate the character Héloïse from the novel A Season in the Life of Emmanuel (1965) by French-Canadian Marie-Claire Blais, from the perspective of gender studies. In this way, the novel acts as an invitation to debate female sexuality and the religious precepts that reinforced the attribution and maintenance of pre-established identities for each individual. Thus, the aim is to take a critical look at such social predeterminisms imposed on women in a society marked by patriarchal discourse. As a methodology, a bibliographical research was carried out, using studies that address the issues of female condition and sexuality. In the end, it is clear that the study of gender through Literature focuses on the reevaluation of the social framework of Canadian women and on the apprehension of the transformations and changes in concepts perpetuated in contemporary life.
