Abstract

Background – Older people are more active, and participation in Senior Universities appears to be an element of empowerment and memory activation.

Objectives: To evaluate, through regular participation in a senior university, a group of elderly people, their perception of quality in health and memorization of health instructions.

Methodology – Five focus groups were organized with 40 elderly people participating in a Senior University with the application of a questionnaire survey with application supported by one of the researchers to assess the perception and value attributed by the elderly integrated ina senior university, on the quality of services provided for health.

Results – Contrary towhat the literature refers to the person's forgetting the health instructions after the consultation, this exploratory study showed that the elderly still have goodmemory, are active and arrange memorization strategies (such as recording instructions on the cell phone or asking to the professional who writes them down for future use). Active participation in the activities of the senior university may be one of the reasons for this memorizing ability.
