NEUROLOGICAL OUTCOME: CONSTRUCTION OF AN ORIENTATION GUIDE ON GOOD NURSING CARE PRATICES FOR PEOPLE WITH COMPROMISED NEUROLOGICAL STATUS

Abstract

Introduction: The neurological outcome of the neurocritical patient is associated with nursing care provided during their critical period in intensive care, so nurses should guide their professional practice based on recommended practices. It is essential that nurses providing care to individuals in critical condition with compromised neurological status have knowledge of and adopt preventive interventions for intracranial hypertension and promote cerebral perfusion, among others, we advocate that a guiding document of best practices is relevant to the quality of care and the improved best outcome of the patient.

Objective: To develop a guide of best practices to standardize nursing care provided to individuals in critical condition with compromised neurological status.

Methodology: The guiding document was constructed according to the recommendations of the Nursing Board. To optimize and validate its coherence with evidence-based practice, the relevance of the guiding document in the context of the Emergency Department, Operating Room, and Intensive Care Unit was evaluated through a Delphi panel specifically designed for this purpose.

Conclusion: The results revealed that the guiding document of best practices is highly relevant and serves as a theoretical framework for the care of individuals in critical condition with compromised neurological status. The systematization of evidence-based intervention shows potential for improving the quality of care and the neurological outcome of individuals in neurocritical situations.
