Colaborative creation of constructed assets with multidisciplinary BIM project: 3D, 4D and 5D models
Main Article Content
Abstract
The Building Information Modelling (BIM) methodology is currently the main support for the development of integrated and collaborative projects within the Architecture, Engineering, Construction and Operations (AECO) industry, having been implemented in all sectors of activity and worldwide. The present study aims to disseminate the collaborative capabilities of multidisciplinary BIM projects building upon an integrated 3D BIM model. The study describes the modelling processes of different disciplines (architecture, structures and networks of domestic water and electricity), the analysis of conflicts between components, the establishment of the construction planning (4D BIM model) and also the obtaining of the cost estimate (5D BIM model). In order to cover in detail, the various procedures, the case study was restricted to a specific area of a house, the sanitary facilities, as it presents a sufficient complexity in the modeling process, in the identification and timing of construction steps associated with the necessary human resources and in the estimation of costs involved by discipline and component. The visual simulation of the construction planning was prepared using a BIM viewer. The study aims to make a positive contribution to the dissemination of an adequate use of the available BIM-based systems, highlighting the integrative character of the methodology for the creation stage of constructed asset and asset systems. In addition, the main purpose is to promote the potential for integrating planning and budgeting activities tasks that are traditionally elaborated as a parallel process.
