Abstract

An evaluation and validation method areparamount for establishing credibility and strengthening the acceptanceof conclusions on a given topic. This article aims to describe the adaptation of the Delphi technique in validating the content of a newly developed questionnaire on Digital Transformation in Asset Management. The study involved 25 experts of the Portuguese industry with experience in Asset Management and Digital Transformation. The questionnaire covered the following topics: Asset Management, Digital Transformation, NP EN55001 standard, information systems, and the asset life cycle. Additionally, maturity models related to Asset Management and Digital Transformation were addressed. The IAM (Institute of Asset Management) model was used to assess the maturity level in Asset Management, while the VDMA/IMPULS model was used to evaluate digital maturity. The Delphi technique was modified to fit the format of a questionnaire the experts conducted in a single round. The results showed a response rate of 72%. The experts reached a consensus on the 15 questions presented, with 10 questions being unanimously validated and well-rated, along with some suggestions for improvement. In comparison, five questions did not achieve as much consensus. A Likert scale from 1 to 5 was used forclassification and evaluation, where “1—Not relevant at all” and “5—Extremely relevant”. This modified Delph technique allowed the identification of future trends and vectors in Asset Management and Digital Transformation. The Delphi method contributed to the refinement of the questionnaire formulation, serving as an intermediate step in an iterative validation process. The experts' opinions and provided constructive feedback for validating the questions and the overall structure of the questionnaire to be used.
