Abstract

The effectiveness of a comprehensive maintenance and reliability management process can be evaluated through a detailed analysis of a wide variety of factors that, together, constitute the contribution of maintenance to the operation and production processes of an industrial asset. There are no simple formulas that allow the design of a comprehensive maintenance and reliability model within an asset management process (under the ISO 55001 standard). There are also no fixed or immutable rules that are universally valid and applicable in the same way to all production assets. Based on the arguments presented, the main objective of this article is to present a summary of the implementation project of MGM: Maintenance Management Model developed by INGEMAN, at the SINEA PERÚ Plant, a leading company in Latin America in the industrial manufacturing of recycled plastic containers for commercial beverages (PET — Polyethylene Terephthalate preforms).

Next, the most relevant aspects developed in the project and that will be analyzed in this article are described:

  • Identification of key factors that help improve asset performance through the application of maintenance management optimization techniques and reliability engineering, integrated into an Asset Management Model.

  • Evaluation of critical processes of the proposed Maintenance and Reliability Management Model (MGM) under the framework of an Asset Management process (related standards: UNE 16646 and ISO 55001).

  • Proposal for the formation of a Reliability Engineering support group aimed at implementing the proposed actions based on the application of the MGM.

  • Analysis of the results obtained from the application of the diagnostic tool AMORMS: Asset Management, Operational Reliability, and Maintenance Survey); and from the techniques of RCA (Root Cause Analysis) and RCM (Reliability Centered Maintenance), in a pilot area of the SINEA PERÚ Plant.

Finally, the recommendations and action plans with the greatest impact are described, which will help the SINEA PERÚ organization consolidate the effectiveness of its maintenance and reliability management processes and efficiently optimize the value of its industrial assets throughout their life cycle.
