Abstract

In the present research, the magnitude of exposure of users on each of the beaches along the Costa del Sol is categorized. The methodology, that is developed at a detailed scale, is based on the visual count of users present in aerial photographs. The total number of registered users is extrapolated to the holiday peak, thus adjusting the exposure to the foreseeable annual maximum, and is classified by severity intervals. Although the results warn of a distribution of the largest intervals on the beaches of the provincial capital and its western neighbors, as well as in the vicinity of the main tourist centers, they also extend to remote points outside of urban circuits. This invites reflection on the intervention of external exposure factors, in addition to those solely derived from the location adjacent to metropolitan areas.

Francisco José Cantarero Prados, Universidad de Málaga, España

Francisco José Cantarero Prados has a Ph.D. in geography from the University of Malaga, Spain. As a researcher attached to the Department of Geography at the University of Malaga, he teaches "Territorial Planning and Sustainable Tourism" at the Faculty of Tourism. Previously, he worked as a full-time "A" full professor (2016-2018) on the Territorial Development degree at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. His main line of research focuses on the analysis of risk derived from hazards of a different nature: from processes related to erosion, forest fire, mass movements and especially floods, to more recently biological phenomena, such as jellyfish blooms and repercussions on human activity on the beaches. He works from an integrated, transversal and territorial perspective, in some cases from a social vulnerability point of view and in others focuses more attention on the biophysical processes that generate hazard. He has developed methodological approaches based on the linked analysis of associated and synergistic operating risks, and on the relationship of the territorial patterns of land use with the generation of risk. He has worked on 20 research projects and participated as an author or co-author in four books, seven scientific journal article (2 JCR) and 10 book chapters

Rodolfo Silva Casarín, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, México

Rodolfo Silva Casarín holds a degree in Civil Engineering (1988) from the Escuela Nacional de Estudios Profesionales de Acatlán and a degree in Civil Engineering (Highways, Canals, and Ports) from the University of Cantabria, Spain (1995). He earned an MBA from Chapultepec University, Mexico (1990) and a Master’s in Ocean Engineering from the University of Cantabria, Spain (1992). In 1995, he obtained his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Cantabria, Spain. Currently, he is a Full-Time Researcher at the Institute of Engineering and a Full Professor at the Faculty of Engineering. Throughout his academic career, he has taught courses on academic recommendations for maritime works within the Graduate Program of the Faculty of Engineering at UNAM.
