Resumo

The issue of women's participation in the tourism industry is a pertinent one in academic research, given its correlation with economic development, social inclusion, and job creation. Tourism is recognised as a dynamic sector of contemporary economies and a significant area for examining women's labour force participation in the service sector. However, the extant literature presents fragmented approaches that hinder an integrated understanding of the phenomenon. In this context, the present study aims to identify the main trends, factors, and barriers associated with women's labour force participation in the tourism industry through a systematic review of the scientific literature. The analysis has been developed in accordance with the guidelines set out in the 2020 PRISMA statement, a document which facilitates the transparent identification, selection, and evaluation of academic studies. The present study employs an approach that examines the intricacies of the dynamics that shape women's participation in the labour force within the tourism sector. This approach acknowledges the interaction between structural conditions of the labour market, organisational dynamics, and sociocultural factors that influence women's career paths.
