Abstract

E-commerce is an important tool now-a-days and one of the benefits of the Internet. The companies and their surroundings are encouraged to massively use them as a quick and easy way to buy online. The main objective of this study is to investigate whether online shopping is part of everyday life for residents of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM) and to understand to what extent organizations are affected by their customers' online consumption. Through an online questionnaire, 100 responses were obtained. The sampling method was the convenience sampling in the scope of Non-probability sampling. The questions used were multiple-choice questions and evaluations using Likert-type scales. About 92% of the sample said they have already made purchases online. It was stated, that the main advantages of online shopping are the existence of more competitive prices, the convenience and variety of products and as disadvantages are the impossibility of testing/experimentation, shipping costs and delivery time. The frequency of use, expenses, the products/services purchased, the used websites, the satisfaction and influence by the pandemic caused by COVID-19 were some of the topics covered. At the end, limitations and recommendations are presented.
